Mostproblemsarecausedbyimproperinstallationandop-
erationofthereplace.Toprovidereasonableresafety,
thefollowingshouldbegivenseriousconsideration:
• Thereshouldbesupervisedwheneverthereplaceis
inuse.
• An annual inspection should be performed on the
replacesystem.
• Installatleastonesmokedetectoroneachoorofyour
hometoensureyoursafety.
• InstallaconvenientlylocatedClassAreextinguisher
nearthereplace.
• Deviseapracticedevacuationplan,consistingofatleast
twoescaperoutes.
• Deviseaplantodealwithachimneyre:
- Closeallopeningsintothestove.
- Evacuate.
- Notifytheredepartment.

1. Clear Space
Combustiblematerialsmustnotbestoredonthehearth
extension.Roomfurnishingssuchasdrapes,curtains,
chairs or other combustibles must be at least 4ft
(1219mm)fromtheopenfrontofthereplace.
Combustible materials are materials made of or sur-
facedwithanyofthefollowingmaterials:
- Wood - Compressedpaper
- Plantbers - Plastic
- Plywood/OSB - Drywall
- Anymaterialthatcanigniteandburn,ameproofed
ornot,plasteredorun-plastered.
WARNING! Risk of Fire! Keep combustible materials,
gasolineandotherammablevaporsandliquidsclearof
thereplace.
DO NOT:
• storeammablematerialsclosetothereplace
• use gasoline, lantern fuel, kerosene, charcoal lighter
